Spotlight Report: Suriname 2025
Spotlight Report on the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Voluntary National Review (VNR) of the Kingdom of Suriname
Suriname has voluntarily opted to carry out a Voluntary National Report (VNR) on its implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The first VNR that Suriname has submitted since the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted and entered into force, was to the 10th session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July 2022 and reports on SDGs 4, 5 and 17.
This submission by Pride Alliance Suriname to the 13th session of the HLPF, is Suriname’s second HLPF spotlight report. With full appreciation of the integrated, indivisible and interrelated nature of the SDGs, this HLPF spotlight report will report on the implementation of SDGs 3, 5, 8 and 17. The following approach is to highlight the importance of the SDGs 3, 5, 8 and 17 for creating a sustainable, inclusive and supportive society for all, regardless of someone’s sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC). From a SOGIESC perspective, this submission provides a reasonable insight into the degree of socio-economic inclusiveness of Suriname’s society. It also shows that the full realization of a socio-economic inclusive Surinamese society is still a distant prospect at this stage.
Pride Alliance Suriname is a partnership in the context of SDG 17 between SOGIESC-oriented organizations, New Monday, LGBTI-platform Suriname, and COC.
