Spotlight Report on the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Voluntary National Review (VNR) of Guyana

While macroeconomic developments are necessary for countries, as we have seen elsewhere, development progress does not necessarily trickle down to the most vulnerable and marginalised in our society. Often, inclusion and participation are necessitated by existing social and economic capital, which many LGBTQ people lack. It is therefore our intention that this report will be used to constructively reflect on how one of the most stigmatised and marginalised groups in the country can be included in the effective implementation and full realisation of Guyana’s Sustainable Development Goals for a “One Guyana” for all.

This report was developed by 3 LGBTI organizations from Guyana: Guyana Trans United, Guyana Rainbow Foundation and Proud to be Trans. It was also supported by The Power of Pride alliance that brings together COC, Pan African ILGA and ILGA Asia in a five-year partnership (2021-2025) with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

SDGs under review in this Spotlight Report:

  1. SDG 1- No Poverty

  2. SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities

  3. SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

  4. SDG 17- Partnerships for the Goals
