Spotlight Report: Thailand 2025
Spotlight Report on the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Voluntary National Review (VNR) of Thailand
This Spotlight Report, submitted for Thailand’s 3rd Voluntary National Review (VNR) 2025, outlines the current human rights situation of LGBTIQ+ youth using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDGs 3 Health, 4 Education, 5 Gender Equality, and 8 Decent Work as a framework. Despite positive steps in Thailand, such as the legalization of same-sex marriage and inclusion of hormone therapy in national healthcare, many LGBTIQ+ youth continue to face discrimination, especially transgender and non-binary individuals who lack legal gender recognition. The structural barriers both laws and policies remain across education, healthcare, employment, and political participation, with additional risks for rural, low-income, and refugee communities.
This report was written by Young Pride Foundation and the coalition of LGBTIQ+ CSOs and youth groups. Young Pride Foundation is a trans and youth-led community founded by trans survivors of unfair and transphobic discrimination in higher education in Thailand. Founded in 2018 and officially registered in 2024, we have been a leading force in promoting LGBTIQ+ rights and youth empowerment in Thailand.
