Spotlight Report on the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Voluntary National Review (VNR) of Turkmenistan

In Turkmenistan, progress has been made towards achieving the SDGs, but significant challenges remain. For example, Turkmenistan faces issues such as gender equality, the criminalization of same-sex sexual activity, and the failure to implement recognized HIV prevention and treatment measures which pose significant barriers to achieving sustainable and equitable development. Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive approach that takes into account the unique social, economic, and environmental factors that affect the country.

The report was prepared by Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity (ECOM), an international non-governmental organization based in Tallinn, Estonia. We are a membership organization open to non-profit organizations and activists working in the areas of HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support for men who have sex with men and transgender people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region. The network currently has 76 members from 19 countries, stretching from Estonia to Tajikistan. This report was supported by The Power of Pride alliance that brings together COC, Pan African ILGA and ILGA Asia in a five-year partnership (2021-2025) with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs..
